We are delighted to welcome the first Alpine Coaster in the North Carolina Mountains – located at the base of Sugar Mountain. Ride individual carts at speeds up to 27 MPH on multiple 360-degree loops at Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster. It’s a cross between a roller coaster and toboggan sled run. They are open every day year-round, including our winter ski season. Advance online reservations highly recommended (required most days) – read more below.
Begin your trek by riding to the top of the mountain with views of Sugar Mountain. Ride through the forest and by rock boulders – fun for the entire family. The two-person carts are perfect for a parent a child (needs to be at least 38 inches). To ride single, you need to be at least 16 years old and 54 inches tall.
There’s no experience needed. Each self-steering cart has hand brakes, so you control your speed. Each ride is about 7 minutes, and they have single or multiple ride tickets.
Hours & Tickets: They are open every day from 10 AM until dark. Single ride tickets are $16/adult, $13/youth and $5/child. Save with multi ride package tickets. Advance reservations highly recommended, but walk-ins are welcome on slower days.
Go to their website for the latest info and to book a time.
Address: 3265 Tynecastle Highway, Banner Elk – along NC Highway 184. From the main Sugar Mountain entrance, turn right onto NC 184 and go about 3/10 of a mile.
