Stay on Sugar Mountain during the first weekend of December for an extra festive time to kick off the holiday season. “A Small Town Christmas” in nearby Banner Elk (2.5 miles away) includes many free events for the entire family – including a parade, carol sing, ornament making, story time with Santa and festivities in the town park. It’s a real life “Hallmark Movie” type of event, kicking off with the Christmas Tree lighting on the town square on Friday evening. Most other events are throughout Saturday.
For even more wintry fun, head to the Sugar Mountain ski resort, tubing park or ice skating rink. Find vacation rentals on the mountain and plenty of other things to do. On Sunday, you can visit a nearby Christmas Tree Farm to pick out the perfect tree to take home.
